Review of The Misfits (1961) by Anthony S — 03 Jan 2009
This melancholy film was the last for Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable. I like the idea of lost souls in a bleak setting. All the characters have difficulty connecting with each other, as well as with modern times.
The emotional undercurrent combined with the Nevada backdrop make for a very moody, evocative film. The film aesthetics are otherwise fairly crude. The performers all do good jobs, but I wouldn't say they are great.
Arthur Miller's screenplay seems more like a stage play most of the time.
