Review of The Miracle Worker (1962) by Cody O — 19 Jun 2008
This is a great film with some good cinematography but surprisingly, I preferred the year 2000 version put out by Disney. (Isn't that a shock!).
Both have their merits. The original film is a terse and relentless film that is true to life in all ways. However, they do not develop the characters as well as in the remake. In the 2000 version they tone down the harsh realities of Annie Sullivan's past and Hellen Kellers demeanor, but they gain in emotional punch.
I was much more deeply moved by the remake and couldn't help think I might have been somewhat affected by the fact that I saw that version first.
Whatever version you see, make sure you see this film. It's altruistic moral is timeless and will make your heart melt.
