Review of The Miracle Worker (1962) by Gavin D — 06 Sep 2012
A compelling play gets the perfect screen treatment. The Miracle Worker is a classic. Its true story is undeniably inspiring and powerful, and the black-and-white filming fits the setting perfectly. When it all comes down, though, the movie would never have worked without the right leads.
Anne Bancroft is astounding as Anne Sullivan and Patty Duke packs a knockout as Helen Keller. Played without sentiment, the movie works even more. The Miracle Worker remains a staple in cinema history, and it can never be imitated.
