Review of The Midnight Meat Train (2008) by Neverpraying C — 27 Mar 2010
I really love scary movies, and boy did I love "The Midnight Meat Train". I really don't know if it's the fact that I love gore, or the fact that I love Bradley Cooper, but whatever it is I loved this movie.
I've heard people call this movie 'unrealistic' because of the unlikely hood of all of the events, or because of the amounts of blood. And many people don't like it because of the ending. I happen to like it more because of all of these reasons. I like the way that it feels like it could be real, but in reality it can't be. It makes it more fun to watch.
My favorite parts of the movie are the Bradley Cooper scenes because he brought such reality to Leon. His acting brought a life into the character. I actually felt his pain, felt his curiousity, felt his love, and felt how his life began to change, most importantly I felt his feelings at the end of the movie.
Vinnie Jones was ok, but he was just a face, and that was his role, and that's fine. I just don't know if I liked him that much, he seemed too weak in some respects.
I enjoyed the way Ryuhei Kitamura directed it, and I think it was fantastic the way Clive Barker came up with the story. I was always intrested in what was happening, and what would happen next.
I think every though it isn't the best movie out there it certianly sets a tense atomosphere and sets up all of the characters with backstories and allows us to feel their fear and their emotions. I feel like this movie is more a study on human behavior than anything. Even though it's not a documentary it feels like it could be. The way Leon takes photos, and goes deep into the heart of city life, it's almost showing how his one life and search for the heart of the city is a metaphor for the way life is looking for the heart of something. I know that it's not realistic, or what the movie was going for, but I feel that it shows how a human would be curious, how they would go searching and get caught up in something they didn't know, how a human would follow something because they see it.
Overall this movie is great and makes you think on some level, if you are willing to see what is just beyond the story. I urge you to watch it. But be warned, it might not be scary enough for some of you, it wasn't scary enough for me. I'd only call it thrilling.
