Review of The Midnight Meat Train (2008) by Dave S — 30 Mar 2017
It tries so hard, but something's off here. It does have a very distinctive visual style, at least towards the beginning - they sure know how to film a subway, and the over-the-top gore comes off as more nightmarish than absurd, which is good.
But about 30 minutes in I realized that it just wasn't involving me - there's something too slick, too clinical about the goings-on here. I appreciate that it's moodier, crazier, and maybe even artsier than the average horror flick these days, but all that doesn't necessarily make it better.
