Review of The Mexican (2001) by Martin D — 15 Jun 2011
Virbinksi makes a rom-com, and naturally it's obscure and distinctly magical fun. With a legacy of Leone movies, a magnificent chemistry between all the characters (particularly Roberts as the firey kidnapee and Gandolfini as the gay mafia hitman) this is a wonderfully structured rom-com that deserves recognition over other mediocre entries in a stagnant genre.
Wonderfully shot, wittily performed by a dream-cast and teaming with black comedy darker than anything its competetors in the genre would dream of.
