Review of The Messenger (2009) by Taft W — 22 May 2010
Really Powerful movie. Everyone has seen the scene of the uniformed soldiers going to deliver the news to the next of kin, but never has an entire movie been done on that alone. It's an uncomfortable ride, sometimes gut-wrenching to watch news delivered like that. The movie pulls no punches and you feel for the soldiers (and the Kin, themselves) and it just reaffirms that war sucks and you wouldn't want the job of a U.S. Army's Casualty Notification Officer.
As for the actors, Woody Harrelson was really good in his role and deserved his nomination. Though, I'm not too crazy about Ben Foster and his facially expressions, I could tolerate him throughout. Didn't find Samantha Morton all that great or even that attractive but you can see why Fosters character is attracted to Morton's, even if it seems like he's trying to take advantage of her emotional state. Highly Recommend this one....
