Review of The Men Who Stare at Goats (2009) by Kj P — 09 Sep 2011
With such an all-star cast and such an odd story, I was expecting something brilliant, but all this film is, is a rehash of many films throughout the years, tied together to make a decent story work. I was drawn in for the full 90 minutes, but nothing that I was watching felt more than mediocre.
The acting is great, the idea is creative, but the overall impact of the events and the unbelievable "Jedi" non-sense just makes portions of this film laughable. Sure, it is filled with sly and subtle humour, but that doesn't hide the fact that you laugh at parts that are not meant to be funny.
The Men Who Stare At Goats is just another average film, with the perk of having an all-star cast to hold it together. Many of these actors are award-winners, but it seems like they wanted a break. Would I watch this again? No, but it was interesting the first time around!
