Review of The Meg (2018) by Jellis E — 16 Sep 2018
If you are annoyed by plastic bravado, ironic asides or nodding and winking at the audience this is hard to watch. Imagine if every other line was "we're gonna need a bigger boat". It's like that.
There is no mood per se; everyone seems to take incredible fantasy in stride without any emotional consequence, like they they have autism, and it's on to the next action set-piece. The good part is the spectacle but of course that's just CGI.
Good CGI. I would have preferred less licking of the fourth wall, more scientific wonder, more horror and less jump scares.
