Review of The Meg (2018) by Nicholas K — 13 Aug 2018
The humor did not work well, therefore it was difficult to take this film seriously or get emotionally involved. The concept of the origin of the shark was very interesting, but the movie overall was a disappointment. It started very well, but devolved from there.
Stratham played his role fine, as did some of the other cast, and the special effects were very good, but the potential was lost as this should have been a more serious film with more realism and a better script. Cliff Curtis was not needed for this film, his talent was absent and wasted. It is difficult to make a shark horror film with notable humor content, Deep Blue Sea was the only one to do it successfully. Sharknado if you are drunk maybe.
