Review of The Meddler (2016) by Junelkean — 08 Jul 2017
Susan Sarandon and Rose Byrne star in the semi-autobiographical drama comedy by Lorene Scafaria, The Meddler. Sarandon plays a widow named Marnie who relocates from New Jersey to Los Angeles to be closer to her daughter named Lori (Byrne). Perhaps ultimately, the mother-daughter chemistry and the irresistible charm of the central character are the biggest praises of this movie.
The Meddler combines hilarious and heartwarming to tell a compelling story about loss, grief and moving forward to the next stages of life. Sarandon does a great job in helming her character marked as funny and likeable, while Byrne reveals a different side on her acting skills, being angry and low-tempered.
However, the movie drags for a couple of minutes during the second half and gets a little boring for some audiences. It is also a forgettable and unmemorable experience that would not be regarded as Sarandon's best films in years.
VERDICT: While the movie turns out to be a good gift for every mother to enjoy because of Sarandon and Byrne, The Meddler is pretty much gone from the memory.
