Review of The Matrix Revolutions (2003) by Anh H — 07 Mar 2014
I watched this because Reloaded ended with a hanger. Now wish I only watched the first one. My gosh it just doesn't make any sense!!! I get it that it's not supposed to be all clear like black and white, and some of the implying messages did come through, but goddammit there're just too many plot holes.
The beginning is a little disturbing with an unnecessary meeting at the train station, but I can see how they try to merge some of the Hinduism philosophy in it. The fight for survival in Zion is too damn long, but it helps building character for those who survives so I guess it's OK.
But the end.. for God sake the end sucks on so many levels that I can't even begin. Trinity got Boba-Fetted after seeing the sun for the first time?? She was the coolest and most badass character of the whole franchise, I even teared up a little to see her at the end, but the speech of love just went on and on that it took her like 10 minutes to really die after being speared by machines.
I thought nothing can be worse, guess what, I was wrong. Neo negotiated with the Architect, had an impossible Dragon Balls fight with agent Smith, got Smith to "turn" him, and [I don't know how this even happen] "erased" them all, millions of Smiths, all, at once.
Not a single explanation given. The machines keep their pinky swear with Neo, everyone in Zion is saved, and probably celebrating with another rave or orgy or whatever. And I see my hero unplugged, lying with his arms open like kung fu Jesus, seemingly dead.
He sacrificed himself for an unsettling peace. It could end there, but no, they gotta snub the Oracle and her little girl back in, making yet another stupid vague open ending, with rainbow and birding singing and shit.
Gosh.. why.. oh why.. I wonder what kinda acid the Wachowskis were on when I wrote the script for this one. How could they turn such an awesome story into total crap? [calm down, it's only a movie] Out of my sheer love for Neo and Agent Smith, I gave this 3 stars, gotta admit it still has some cool action sequence.
