Review of The Matrix Revolutions (2003) by Tatsuhito K — 13 Jul 2015
An admirable but disappointing conclusion to one of the most inventive film franchises of the millennium. It's not a terrible film, and if you are an action junkie, you will have an immensely fun time watching this film.
But considering what the last two films did both in terms of the visuals and the world-building, Revolutions comes out more as an action extravaganza with loads of special effects than a smart, philosophical, and exciting sci-fi film.
The Wachowskis threw away all the good stuff from the last films, and infused nothing but loud, mindless, bloated set pieces and anticlimactic ending. I still love the romance between Neo and Trinity, and how it ends did pull some heart strings (not ashamed at all.
) But everything else is bland, joyless, and left me with an empty feeling. The Matrix Revolutions proves that making a satisfying third sequel is a really hard thing to pull off.
