Review of The Masked Saint (2016) by Lauren J — 09 Jan 2016
You could be forgiven for thinking that WWF and religion don't mix well, but this movie proves that stereotype wrong. it's based on the real life biography of a Florida pastor who was once a pro wrestler and went back to it to help support his young family and his church.
The story arc is fairly predictable, but at least in this case, it's actually true to life! The child lead brings a refreshing energy (she will be starring in an upcoming X-men flick), and the acting is fine overall.
The film is notable for a star turn by Diahann Carroll and also by the late wrestling great Roddy Piper in his last film. It's not a big film, but it has action, drama, and a few lighthearted moments.
Verdict: a good family flick for all but very young children, and also suitable for date night.
