Review of The Mask of Zorro (1998) by Matthew E — 11 Nov 2009
The Mask of Zorro is by far one of my favorite movies of all time. This movie has everything. I've always been a fan of Zorro ever since I was a child. Next to Superman Zorro is one of my favorite heroes.
Director Martin Campbell brings Zorror from great to amazing. If he didn't make this movie then this movie wouldn't have been as great as it is.
Having Antonio Banderas play Zorro was by the perfect choice. Nobody can ever out do what Antonio Banderas does as Zorro.
(Minor spoiler alert) Before Antonio Banderas became Zorro in the film Zorro was actually Anthony Hopkins. Once again Anthony Hopkins pulls a great proformance. He is such a humble actor.
Another great cast member that was in this movie was the lovely Catherine Zeta-Jones. She was amazing and is so beautiful in this movie.
The most well known part in the movie is the sword fight between Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones. At first I thought it was nothing much and was overrated. After seeing it I can see why it was so popular. If I had a sword I would do what Zorro does to Zeta's character.
The humor is funny and stays true to Zorro's character without over doing it. Much like it was during the old TV series.
The action is great to watch. The sword fights are amazing to watch. I personally love seeing sword fights more than any other kind of fights. Another thing that is done that I love watching are fight sences done in one shot.
The plot in the movie is simple and great to follow. Very original.
Overall the movie is perfect for anybody. Even though the movie is PG-13 kids will love the movie also. There's not a single thing wrong with this movie. Perfect from beginning to end.
