Review of The Marine (2006) by Daniel G — 28 Nov 2012
This is THE typical guy action flick. Literally...every stereotype put up about action movies happens in this movie.
Rouge man on the hunt for the bad guys who got his loved one. The bad guys are all numbskulls except for the leader who is just crazy...and then there's the token black guy in the group who is always accusing people of racism but it's hammed up like a joke. All the women on screen are bomb shells. All the cars (even the random cop car Cena ends up stealing) are supped up high end cars that take unbelievable beatings and never quit. Hundreds if not THOUSANDS of bullets are shot and Cena never gets hit or even grazed once. Everything blows up for no apparent reason other than it just all needs to blow up because it's more "action." And then to seal the deal on classic "guy action stereotypes" after you think the bad guy is dead...like he just HAS to be dead cause there is NO WAY anyone could survive that...BUT NOOOOO he comes back for one last desperate attempt to exact his revenge!!!
The best part of the movie was a funny line about Cena and The Terminator...because the bad guy is the same actor for the T-1000 in T2.
Over all, this entire movie was so predictable...so a-typical. Don't get me wrong, it can be entertaining. But only when you take it for what it is. To a T it's a typical b-flick action movie.
