Review of The Marc Pease Experience (2009) by Cory W — 03 Nov 2009
There was a good reason this was not released in theaters. "The Marc Pease Experience" is one I never want to experience again. With a cast like Ben Stiller, Jason Schwartzman, and rising star Anna Kendrick, you'd expect a decent movie.
..but here it is the opposite. The movie really has no plot, no meaning, and frankly no point to have been made. Schwartzman is a strange man child still trying to relive his high school days of singing in a mediocre acapella group.
Stiller is a dedicated drama teacher who wants nothing to do with Schwartzman, but does enjoy the company of his high school age girlfirend (Kendrick) a little too much. Schwartzman is oblivious to the fact that he has evidence of Stiller doing adult things with Kendrick, but is more concerned about cutting a demo with Stiller's help.
The movie was utterly terrible. The only redeeming factor of the film is the sympathy you have for the other members of the acapella group and the things they have to go through with Schwartzman's character.
Overall, this movie hits a flat note and keeps on singing it.
