Review of The Marc Pease Experience (2009) by Margaret O — 26 Aug 2009
I loved it! I don't know why it is not being given its due... or distribution... or publicity. Compared to all the dreck that's out there, this was a welcome surprise.
Anyone who has attended high school can relate to the caricatures of teachers and students depicted in this film. And, certainly, anyone who's attended a high school musical or been remotely associated with the production of a high school performance should find this resonates with them on many levels.
From the very first moment when the director of the high school production (Ben Stiller)is giving an opening night "pep" talk to student actor Marc Pease (Jason Schwartzman) about why he is so valued ["you set the bar so other kids can go beyond it"]...I was hooked! This is a classic piece of satire...clearly, director Todd Louiso has captured a ridiculous slice of high school life and those who have not moved on.
As the film itself so aptly noted, The Marc Pease Experience is "...my guilty pleasure.".
