Review of The Manson Family (1997) by Jon W — 16 Jun 2007
Possibly the best biopic of mass murder since 1986's "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer." That it injects fresh curiosity into a case that has become an anomaly in our historical/legal/popular culture is also saying something.
While the spastic narrative is loosely-stitched together, the film is more about capturing the bad-acid trip surreality of the late 1960s. Like a cross between "Easy Rider" and "Natural Born Killers," this is one hellacious ride that invokes the '70s 'grindhouse' more effectively than any of the torture-porn poseurs currently dabbling in the genre.
