Review of The Manchurian Candidate (2004) by Max W — 01 Feb 2009
Manchurian Candidate is a movie based on the ultimate conspiracy from the cold war back in the 60's. To me anyways. When I heard there was a remake I knew straight away that whatever they try to do it wont be as effective as the original simply because of the time that came out and what had happened surrounding the assassination of JFK and the whole Oswald thoery.
With the remake we are obviously dealing with a new war and a totally different conspiracy. Here we are dealing with an ex soldier turned politician with a powerful mother behind him controlling him with others of course to make him the perfect senate to win the presidency. The plan is quite similar to the original but based in Iraq if I'm not mistaken.
With this one they changed a few things around from the original like the way the mother controls her son and as well as the ending. It is no where as effective as the original.
This is worth watching because it doesn't fully copy the whole idea of the movie shot to shot but if you have seen the original and have high expectations you will 99.9% be disappointed.
