Review of The Manchurian Candidate (2004) by Garfunkel A — 20 Jul 2014
In the Manchurian candidate we see that bloke from 'Scream' as a war hero & political candidate guarded by a fat Jim Carry lookalike.
As normal Denzel Washington gives a sterling performance as Denzel Washington, remembering his words and regurgitating them in the requisite scripted order.
The film lacks any real pace and can hardly be considered a thriller. In fact it lacks so much pace it barely qualifies as a moving picture; more like a series of still shots strung together in a flick book.
Essentially, the film lacks suspense, and the reveals are trite and transparent. Obviously the book was made into a film originally in 1962 and was critically well received, so it's a mystery (but not a phenomenon in terms of remakes) that the 2004 interpretation lacks any real punch.
CONTAINS:
- Mild suggestions of incest,.
- Unrealistic science,.
- That bloke from 'Scream'.
