Review of The Manchurian Candidate (1962) by Nat G — 13 Jul 2010

This is a strange film, and I think it needs to be watched twice to understand what's going on. Frank Sinatra the lead actor plays his role very well, and I didn't expect him to be any good. I like the plot of this film, and it has some unique ideas.

I love the nightmare scenes, dreams are very hard to do on film, but the director has done amazing job, the dream is so weird and funny at the same time. This film could not be seen for years as Sinatra purchased the rights and withdrew the film from circulation.

An unexpected surprise was Angela Lansbury, who plays an evil mother, I'm so used to her play nice roles, it nice to see her being dark. A great little film which is powerful and full of dark humour, suspense and mystery.
