Review of The Manchurian Candidate (1962) by Nick D — 16 Sep 2007
Shocking and uncompromising, this 1962 film is still as relevant today as it was back then. (Honestly, I don't find George W. that far removed from the drunken Senator Iselin). Before that "Murder She Wrote" nonsense, Angela Landsbury gave the performance of her life in this film, the bone-chilling, Mommy Loves You freak that still creeps the hell out of me.
"Candidate" is also notable for Sinatra's hilarious judo-esque fisticuffs with a Chinese spy...yet it's still better choreographed than any crap Seagal has ever done, and ol' Blue Eyes at least had the excuse of having another day job.
And he can actually act, which is more than "The Great One" can lay claim to. Why am I using this film to bash other people? Oh well, never mind the bollocks, watch this film if you haven't already!
