This intriguing political thriller has numerous subtle influences from New Wave filmmaking overseas; from the odd combination of realism and surrealism to the occasional oblique camera angle to the exceptional editing.
The bleak political side of the script does struggle to hold interest, but the cast still performs with conviction, especially Angela Lansbury as a wicked and domineering mother.
