Review of The Manchurian Candidate (1962) by Tara S — 24 Jan 2010
So good, such a strong drama, and still disturbing to this day as its political implications can fit in any time period. Angela Lansbury is at her best here and creates a timeless villain out of the most controlling mother in the history of cinema.
Sinatra is great here too, but it is Henry Silva who makes the film work. We believe in him and his character and he carries the film quite well. The script is perfect and Frankenheimer's direction is steely with a great many amazing shots.
