Review of The Manchurian Candidate (1962) by Cliff R — 27 May 2011
Part conspiracy thriller, part satire, all mind-twisting, Frankenheimer's original Manchurian Candidate is just one of the great movies. Visually, it's rewarding even after multiple viewings--the "brainwashing" scenes get the most attention, but watch for the clever use of American Eagles and portraits of Abe Lincoln for ironic effect.
And a genius cast at the top of their game--Frank Sinatra, Laurence Harvey, Angela Lansbury, Janet Leigh, and stellar supporting turns from James Gregory, John McGiver and Kheigh Deigh. One of the greats.
