Review of The Manchurian Candidate (1962) by Joshua H — 08 Jun 2011
Probably as riveting a political thriller as any I've ever seen, The Manchurian Candidate is well-filmed, well-crafted, and (mostly) well-acted, its shining elements being the clever camerawork and half-askew perspectives as well as a stunningly villainous Cytaemnestra delivery by Angela Lansbury.
Though quite good, it falls short of greatness thanks to some superfluous elements like Janet Leigh's inclusion as the pointless Rosie, the utterly ridiculous karate scene, and a questionable degree of depth to its political satire.
