Review of The Man Without a Face (1993) by Jordan H — 21 Dec 2007
Mel's first movie as a director, set in the slow summer in the 60's in Maine. Tells of the friendship of a boy and a disfigured teacher, teenage angst and society's prejudice. Brilliant performance by Mel & Nick Stahl (before he did Disturbing Behaviour and T3).
I have to shamelessly admit I cried watching this movie. Very touching and the movie that made me such a Mel fan. Unfortunately, in the novel, the role of the teacher played by Mel was gay but I guess being a homophobe, he can't make it that way.
