Review of The Man with the Golden Gun (1974) by Mjs M — 25 Oct 2008
This is bar none the absolute worst Bond movie. No question. This is Bond at his most stupid, most ridiculous and most un-serious. Usually when Bond movies get this dumb they at least benefit from being grand spectacles, but this one is oddly small and unspectacular.
The chases aren?t as big, the villain?s scheme doesn?t seem that dastardly, and when they finally get to a really good stunt it?s ruined by a comical whistle sound effect. Goodnight is a really stupid Bond Girl; she is a totally ditzy blonde who does nothing but stumble and hurt Bond throughout.
And Nick Nack? My god who the hell thought it would be a good idea to get the midget from Fantasy Island as the henchman. Also, Bond acts like a total jerk throughout the movie. He pushes a Thai kid off a boat, he locks Goodnight in a closet while he screws another woman, and he is at his most unlikable here.
