Review of The Man with the Golden Arm (1955) by Scott K — 16 Aug 2011
A compelling, extremely well acted '50's melodrama starting Frank Sinatra as a heroin junkie trying to kick the habit and turn his life around. Really groundbreaking stuff in 1955. Great direction by Preminger who filmed exclusively on sound stages which allowed him to use interesting camera moves.
Elmer Bernstein's first score is also a highlight. Also, Sinatra can really act!!!
