Review of The Man with the Golden Arm (1955) by Ben H — 23 Apr 2012
Not Preminger's best, but considering it deals with the life of a junky, based on Algren's Pulitzer prize winning novel it deserves some support. Sinatra is actually excellent as Frankie Machine (Brando wanted the role).
It is just that the directing feels a bit tired, the plot drags a bit and the sets feel a bit flimsy. Great score though too.
