Review of The Man Who Would Be King (1975) by Herb W — 14 Sep 2007
An utterly fantastic movie, kind of a cross between Indiana Jones and a giant costume epic. Somehow the weirder, pulpier aspects (it involves the discovery of a lost civilization) don't fight with the generally realistic tone at all.
Sean Connery and Michael Caine are...Sean Connery and Michael Caine. What else do I have to say about that? While more of an action/adventure flick than the David Lean movies that seem to have inspired it, this is absolutely worth mentioning in the same breath as stuff like Lawrence of Arabia and Dr.
Zhivago. Hasn't aged a day since it was made. Can't recommend it enough.
