Review of The Man Who Wasn't There (2001) by Rick Q — 05 Apr 2012
"the man who wasn't there" is brilliant on every level. a definite stand out is roger deakins' cinematography. never has black and white looked this beautiful. the script written by the coen brothers, who also directed, is dark and twisted, but not without a little bit of humor the brothers are known for.
billy bob thornton delivers an incredible performance as a quiet barber, who turns to black mail in order to add a little more color to his life. long after the film is over, you'll be thinking about it.
the style, the performances, the weirdness, the humor, and of course, the story itself, make "the man who wasn't there" a true masterpiece.
