Set in post WWII America, a barber is suddenly thrown into a spiral of conning, cheating and lying that begins when he tries to get his hands on ten thousand dollars to finance a dry cleaning business.

The ending is thought provoking. In The Man Who Wasn't There, The Coen Brothers pay one of their most nostalgic tributes to classic cinema and the noir genre in particular. The black and white photography looks stunning.

Billy Bob Thornton playing the silent barber with a Chesterfield constantly fixed in his mouth is excellent, and backed by a great supporting cast, a constant element in a film by the Coens, including big names like McDormand, Gandolfini and Scartell Johansson.
