Review of The Man Who Wasn't There (2001) by Callan W — 24 Jan 2008
A beautifully shot film, entierly in black & white, fitting for it's setting, with some fantastic dialogue, and not bad performances from Billy Bob Thornton and Frances McDormand. But it just isn't enough.
I think it missed something. It has all the devices of a film noir, but it's paced oddly for a crime drama. It isn't too bad, but I found it a little too long, and some at some points just weird.
Not the best Coen film. They really like stories about the deterioration of the protagonist.
