Review of The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) by X X — 05 Mar 2012
One of the nicest little pleasures of being a movie fan is discovering that a great director's lesser-celebrated works can be as solid and enjoyable as his masterpieces. 'The Man Who Knew Too Much' is one such film, amply showcasing Hitchcock's mastery of suspense.
Although there are flaws such as inappropriate slips into comedy and lenient editing, the pace and tension of the film never seriously lag. James Stewart is his usual competent self, but I was very impressed with Doris Day's fantastic performance.
This movie is a pretty gem in a glittering collection.
