Review of The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) by Matthew D — 09 Jun 2018
One could accuse this of being slow, especially at the beginning. Not slowly developing tension in the vein of many a great Hitchcock production, just taking its time. Fortunately, the time is spent developing rapport with some fun and charming characters; James Stewart and Doris Day are not only supremely entertaining but nicely used to play with some male and female stereotypes about reacting emotionally.
None of this observation about the preamble is a criticism; instead these things are what make the twists, betrayals and suspense all that more heightened when they come.
