A mildly intriguing biopic about an Indian mathematical genius and his unique collaboration with a Cambridge professor in proving his divinely inspired theories. While it's possible to appreciate the collaborators' passion for their work, the film's material is a little thin, especially in explaining its relevance, leaving viewers wondering why they should care.

Still, the picture's metaphysical undertones are modestly engaging, which helps to elevate a story that might otherwise be tediously dull. Solid performances by Jeremy Irons and Dev Patel help to reinforce the picture as well, but even their portrayals can't rescue it from its inherently understated tone.
