Review of The Man Who Cried (2000) by Shira K — 15 Aug 2008
This movie belongs to people with very definite tastes. It is haunting, heartbreaking...and very very deeply involved in the character's journey both physical and emotional. I think it specifically speaks to people who like something not only visually beautiful, but patient and historically refined.
To see the world through the journey of a young Jewish girl, through Poland and the shtetl to England to Paris at the start of WWII to Hollywood. It is insightful, and I have never seen a film more true to all the pain the war brought on Gypsies, Jews, and many "others" of society at that period of time.
I love it...but then again, I can relate on some level. To love this movie, you have to put youself entirely in her (main characters) shoes. To like it, cause it's well done, you just have to sit back nd be ready to pay attention.
to those who didn't enjoy it as much- you missed the point.
