Review of The Man Who Cried (2000) by Kim M — 17 Dec 2010
No other movie has so captured the essence of the Jew as other in the Gola, nor the journey of a young woman who represents her namesake: Feygaleh means little bird, and she is exactly a lost little bird finding her way while the world sings a swan song.
This movie is my favorite both from a story pov and for its incredible emotional impact- it brought my entire family to tears. All the leads captured their roles with sincerity, and the viewer was taken on an isolated journey through the dark side of the world during the 20th century.
The cinematogrophy and directing were excellent, and it truly deserved The Venice Film Festival's Golden Lion.
