Review of The Man Who Cried (2000) by Shawn K — 07 Mar 2009
Russians. Jews. English people. French people. Dancers. More Russians. Horses. Opera singers. More Jews. Gypsies. Romanian gypsies. War. Nazis. America. This movie skips constantly from one thing to the next in what seems like a desperate effort to divert your attention from the fact that beneath its shiny surface, it is in fact quite insipid.
As a viewer, you basically just go through all Suzie's life without ever getting in the least way attached to her or without even understanding her.
Oh, and what's with the title? Don't tell me the whole movie is named after a really secondary character who cries for about three seconds in the movie?
