Review of The Man on the Eiffel Tower (1949) by Joe F — 17 Feb 2007
What a cast! Laughton makes a great Maigret and the story is very faithful to the book by Simenon on which the film was based. There is a wonderful fleeting scene in the Left Bank cafe featured in the movie where an existentialist guru is holding court.
The dress and attitude of his followers is right out of a Doisneau photo. The film captures Paris of that era.
