Review of The Man in the Iron Mask (1998) by Gary M — 19 Sep 2008
Pretty offensive actually. Irons, Malkovich, Depardieu and Byrne are wasted, and DiCaprio's in "I only need to phone it in because I'm a pretty boy" mode. And all of that pales next to the fact that the original novel is totally re-written into a clumsy hollywood action movie that misses the point on so many levels.
It's a classic for a reason, for crying out loud! If you have a "better" version you want to do, at least don't try to pretend that it's related to the novel in any way!
