The Man in the Iron Mask is a modern interpretation of the Three Musketeers story. The inital story I thought was going to be very boring, but the mystery of the man behind the iron kept me tuned in. I thought all the characters really worked well together, I especially loved John Malkovich as Althos, with his kinds and fatherly spirit.

The costumes were very beautiful and fit the era perfectly. Leonardo DiCaprio was very convincing as the dictator King Louie. He was the character I loved to hate! Now the movie was really confusing in some parts especially the odd death of Raoul, Althos's son, who I thought for sure would resurface in the end.

Also the weird suicide of Christine, his fiance?! I was like "huh?" Another parts was how D'Argantuan turned out to be Louie and Philippe's Dad? How on earth would they be legitimate heirs?! The ending was really sweet with Phillippe (who poses as Louie the rest of his life) wants Althos to be his father figure and how Louie ends up living behind the iron mask.

I also liked how the reference was made that D'Argantuan was the true person who wore the iron mask his whole life, which leads me to think the iron mask represents a veil of secrecy.
