Review of The Man in the Iron Mask (1998) by Jay L — 24 May 2012
This was watchable. I really liked The Three Musketeers (1993 version) and expected something similar. At times I found the film a bit dull. Not one of De Caprio's best performances in his duel roles.
Jeremy Irons was the best of the main actors, with a pretty simple but enjoyable performance. Gabriel Byne had nothing to work with the script and fell in to the background at times. John Malkovich was like a mad man with an American acsent considering the film was set in 17th century France.
And Gerard Depardieu was the only actor in the film who had a French accent and was completely out of place in this film when everyone else in the film is American, British or Irish.
