Review of The Man from Snowy River (1982) by Russell B — 07 Jan 2009
Hadn't seen this since I was little, but rewatched it last night. Great movie! And although there are a few moments of cheesiness (the Psycho-like horror movie shot of "the stallion" springs to mind), there aren't near as many as you might expect.
Good performances, with Tom Burlinson excellent in the role of Jim Craig, and a lovely coming-of-age story. The scenery is gorgeous, and the footage of the horse riding in this is really something special.
And who can forget the "Terrible Descent" of Craig riding down the mountain chasing after the brumby horse mob....that scene specifically being one of the best bits of equestrian footage ever put to the screen.
Good stuff all around!
