Review of The Man from Earth (2007) by Melissa Q — 27 Dec 2009
This last work by Star Trek/Twilight Zone writer Jerome Bixby is, in essence, a play. A play with a terrible sounding plot: while at a goodbye party with his fellow teachers, a man reveals that he's in fact a caveman who somehow never died after 14,000 years.
Bad as it sounds, it's incredibly thoughtprovoking, as all the teachers probe his story for holes. Very interesting musings on immortality and even religion. It's 90 minutes in a single room yet remains reveting though good writing and likable actors.
It's not perfect, but the few bad scenes I was easily able to forgive. Give it a shot.
