Review of The Maltese Falcon (1941) by Scot Q — 13 Jun 2009
Great turns and twists, use of emotion, with Bogart always keeping you on your toes and guessing what Sam Spade will do next. Excellent performance and holds up even today if you can set aside the paltry sums of money being offered to sell each other out.
Mary Astor is wonderful too, playing the crying "broad" who is playing everyone. And fat Sydney Greenstreet makes a good foil to Spade, keeping you wondering all of the way until the end who will come out on top.
Well worth the cost of rental.
