Review of The Maltese Falcon (1941) by Matthew M — 21 Oct 2009
I enjoyed Humphrey Bogart and Peter Lorre in this mystery about the Maltese Falcon. The murder mystery part was also a subject but mainly it was the concern of where the Falcon was. The film is widely considered the first film noir and I felt the need to check it because I enjoyed Casablanca.
The mystery is surprisingly complex and many manipulation were involved for someone to get their hand on it. However, by the end no one really wins even Samuel Spade who pretty much got nothing but his name in the clear about the murder.
It's complex story makes you want to know who really did what and by the end you feel pretty satisfied as to what happened. Overall, a classic film noir.
