Review of The Maltese Falcon (1941) by Will E — 21 Jan 2010
I know this is a classic, and I like it lots--the dialogue is fast and tough (and plenty)--Bogie is in top form, as are Peter Lorre, Sidney Greenstreet, and Elisha Cook Jr. John Huston's direction is superb.
But I just am not a fan of Mary Astor! She doesn't have the femme fatale quality so necessary for the character. Give me THE BIG SLEEP any day.
